At least three times a year, members of the agricultural cooperative SpeiseGut take to the fields. It is situated in the Havelmathen, right next to the farm garden.

The members finance the operation and receive a weekly share of the harvest, while farmer Christian grows the vegetables. This is how market-independent farming works. During the harvests, the helpers not only learn all about the crops that are grown, but Christian will also show what to do with them: for example, how to use coconut milk to make a tasty soup from the humble turnip.

There’s no farmyard, but there is a bright red tractor and the Alte Gärtnerei on Kladower Damm, as well as the shop in the old Gatow fire station where non-members can also buy herbs, vegetables, oil and juices produced by SpeiseGut, all of course in organic quality.

In the Dorfstube next-door, some of the harvest is made into tasty soups and home-made cakes are also on offer.
